  • Dr. Girish M. Nair, MBBS, MD, MSc. (HRM), DM, FRCPC, FHRS.

    Affiliation: Dr. Girish Nair graduated from the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER- a deemed University), Pondicherry, India. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology from the University of Delhi, India. He moved to Canada in 2002 and completed a clinical/research fellowship in Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology from the University of Toronto and associated Toronto General Hospital. Dr. Nair has also completed his MSc. in Health Research Methodology form McMaster University. He served as a faculty in the Division of Cardiology at McMaster University from 2004 to 2012. Dr. Nair joined the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute at the rank of Associate Professor on the 1st of October 2012. Dr. Nair’s current research interests lie in the fields of Atrial Fibrillation, Sudden Cardiac Death and Ventricular tachycardia with a specific focus on evaluating treatment strategies and knowledge transfer. His clinical focus is on complex ablations including Atrial Fibrillation, Ventricular Tachycardia and arrhythmias in the grown up congenital heart disease population.

  • Dr. J. David Spence, MD, FRCPC, FAHA, FCAHS.

    Affiliation: Professor of Neurology and Clinical Pharmacology, and Director of the Stroke Prevention & Atherosclerosis Research Centre, Robarts Research Institute, Western University, London, Canada. Professor Spence has devoted his entire career to stroke prevention. His interests include individualized therapy for resistant hypertension and nutrition in stroke prevention (including vitamin therapy to lower homocysteine). He was a co-discoverer of the effect of grapefruit on drug metabolism, and pioneered the measurement of carotid plaque burden by ultrasound for patient management, genetic research and evaluation of new therapies.

Dr. Oqab was the recipient of the 2016 Junior Investigator Award from the Canadian Stroke Prevention Intervention Network for his work in atrial fibrillation and frailty. His ongoing research interests are atrial fibrillation, frailty and syncope.
